The front hood bonnet struts (sometimes referred to as stays, gas lifters, dampers or rams) are designed to keep the front cover of your Porsche open. They are located on either side of the bonnet near the hinges.
Their sole purpose is to support the weight of the cover, keeping it open and stopping it from falling. If you are finding that your Porsche bonnet is falling on a cold day, or dropping all the time, then your existing struts are worn out and need to be replaced. Swapping them out and replacing them isn’t difficult and there is no requirement for specialist tools. However, it’s worth noting that these struts are all vehicle and application specific due to their differing lengths, mounts and load capabilities. Make sure you select the correct vehicle when purchasing replacement units. We strongly recommend that they replaced as a pair.
The same is true of the rear hatch struts and engine cover stays and struts. These are designed to do the same job as the front cover struts. There are generally two struts per rear cover but there are a few Porsche 911, 996, 997 applications where there is only one required.
At FrazerPart, all of our quality bonnet & tail gate struts are manufactured (to original specification) and supplied directly from Stabilus, the same company that has been making all the of the struts and dampers for all models of Porsche for over 40 years.
